Google Goes Shopping, Motorola + Its 24,000 Patents In The Cart For $12.5 Billions

We all know that Microsoft, Apple and Oracle are behind Google & Android mobile  manufactures for milking money with Patent litigations. In order to protect itself and Android manufactures Google proposed to buy Motorola Mobile for $12.5 billion dollars.

If this deal gets regulatory nod then Google will become one of the major mobile device manufacturer as well as a owner of 24,000 mobile patents. With these patents, Google will get chance to fight back with Microsoft, Apple and Oracle.

Larry Page, the CEO of Google , in a blog post today announced

Our acquisition of Motorola will increase competition by strengthening Google’s patent portfolio, which will enable us to better protect Android from anti-competitive threats from Microsoft, Apple and other companies

The word “patent” was mentioned 24 times on Google’s conference call this morning to discuss the Motorola Mobility deal. Don’t forget: Motorola is being sued by Microsoft for patent infringement. Google just bought its way into that lawsuit.

This is my Next: Google and Motorola: what are all those patents

..curious why Google spent the full $12.5b on Motorola, instead of a smaller amount acquiring the rights to Moto’s patents – or the rights to litigate with those patents. (Or even something more like the Microsoft / Nokia deal, which involved patent cross-licensing and joint development by the two companies.) It’s easy to see why Google and Motorola joined forces to make the most out of Moto’s patents – but now they’ve got to explain how they’ll make the most out of what actually matters: Motorola’s products.
