In this article, we aim to find out which 10 wallets are the most successful Cryptopunk traders? Successful could either mean the wallet has accumulated a large balance from sales or has accumulated a large number of Punks. Explain your methodology and findings.
An Overview About Cryptopunk
On the Ethereum blockchain, 10,000 unique collectible characters are stored with proof of ownership. Originally inspired by the CryptoArt movement of the modern era. Most digital artwork and collectibles are powered by Ethereum’s ERC-721 standard. The Ethereum blockchain allows a single person to officially own multiple punks, each of which is unique. Anyone with an Ethereum wallet could claim them for free, but all 10,000 were claimed very quickly. The Ethereum marketplace contract now requires that they be purchased from someone there. It is possible to buy, sell, bid on, and buy punks via the market.
These CryptoPunk images have been generated algorithmically and measure 24×24 pixels. There are many punky-looking guys and girls mixed in with a few spooky types like apes, zombies, and aliens.
What is the process for getting a punk?
- MetaMask is a Chrome browser plugin that can be downloaded and installed. As a result, your Ethereum account can be accessed by websites that you authorize.
- Make sure you buy some Ether if you have just created an account. The MetaMask plugin includes a Coinbase button for buying Ether.
- This website will recognize the plugin and display buttons that allow you to buy, sell and bid directly on punks once it has been installed.
- For example, we can purchase a punk WPUNKS 9845 for 88 WETH($134).
On this dashboard, we aim to find the top 10 wallets which are the most successful Cryptopunk traders based on their sales volume, as well as the top 10 punks based on their accumulated sales profit. Then, let’s examine cryptopunks sales statistics based on their transactions so that we can compare their price with their transactions and sales volume. In addition, you can find out who are the buyers and sellers over time.
Cryptopunk Sales Statistics
This section illustrates the different metrics on cryptopunks: number of transactions, sales volume in both USD and ETH, average sale price, Ethereum price, buyers and sellers. Moreover, we can see the Top 10 wallets for the last two years according to the number of punks owned.
From the below graph we can see the overall sales statistics of cryptopunks for the past 2 years period.
On a monthly basis, the graph below shows sales transactions compared with Ethereum price. The number of transactions between May 2020 and August 2022 was 14.44K. During August 2021, a maximum of 2.49K transactions were observed, while a minimum of 50 transactions was observed in July 2020. As of July 2022, total transactions are on a downward trend. In February 2021 and August 2021, there were more transactions than normal. A maximum of $4.43K was observed in November 2021 and a minimum of $206.6 was observed in May 2020 for the Ethereum Price.
It can be seen that whenever the Ethereum price falls, the number of sale transactions increases. During the peak of the Ethereum price in Nov 2021, we can clearly see the sudden drop in transactions.
Compared to the years 2021 and 2022, there were very few transactions found during 2020. As we move forward into 2021, we can see a very good increase in the number of transactions. The number of monthly transactions seems to have dropped suddenly from Sept 2021 onward. The reason is due to the crypto market volatility and the ETH price increase up to $4.43. Because of the sudden change in ETH price, we may see a decrease in transactions from September 2021 onwards.
Below is a graph that shows the cumulative sales transactions of Cryptopunks. There were 14.44K cumulative transactions between May 2020 and August 2022.
The total sale volume (eth) from May 2020 to August 2022 was $866.3K. The maximum sale volume (eth) was $210.98K in August 2021, and the minimum sale volume (eth) was $71.67 in July 2020. Sales volume in November 2021 and September 2021 are lower than normal, while sales volume in August 2021 is higher than normal. An average sale price of 576.24 was observed in October 2021, and an average sale price of 1.24 was observed in August 2020. Average Sale Price(ETH) and also sales volume show an upward trend.
As the Ethereum price increases, the sale volume increases as well. During the peak of the Ethereum price in October 2021, the average sale price also increased suddenly. Based on this, we can conclude that both the average sale price and the average sale volume are positively correlated. Hence, we can say that both are proportional.
There was a lower sale volume during 2020 than during 2021 and 2022. On a monthly basis, we can see a very good increase in sales volume as we move forward into 2021. Afterward, we can see a drop in sales volume due to the volatility of the crypto market from November 2021 onward.
According to the graph below, cryptopunks’ average sale price and sales volume in USD are displayed on a monthly basis. Total Sale Volume(usd) between May 2020 to August 2022 was 2.5B. August 2021 observed a maximum Sale Volume(usd) of 649.15M, and July 2020 recorded a minimum Sale Volume(usd) of 18.61K.
On the graph below, we can see the sellers and buyers of cryptopunks, as well as their comparison with the Ethereum price. We can see the maximum number of sellers and buyers on August 2021 when the Ethereum Price was $3076. In Nov 2021, when the price of Ethereum is maximum $4432, a sudden drop of sellers and buyers can be observed in the graph. Thus, we can assume that the increase in Ethereum price has reduced cryptopunk buyers and sellers.
Based on the graph below, we can see the cumulative number of sellers of cryptopunks. We had 6.13K sellers between May 2020 and August 2022. A maximum of 1.03K sellers was observed in August 2021, and a minimum of 24 sellers was observed in July 2020. The number of sellers in August 2021 and July 2021 is higher than usual.
The heat map of cryptopunk sellers shows that on Aug 2021 there is a maximum number of sellers exceeding 1000.
Based on the graph below, we can see the cumulative number of buyers of cryptopunks. We had 7.1K buyers between May 2020 and August 2022. A maximum of 1188 buyers was observed in August 2021, and a minimum of 35 buyers was observed in July 2020. The number of buyers in August 2021 and Feb 2021 is higher than usual.
The heat map of cryptopunk buyers shows that on Aug 2021 there is a maximum number of buyers exceeding 1.1K.
