Windows 7, the code name of next version of Microsoft Windows Operating System is confirmed as the final name too. For the first time ever Microsoft is using the code name as the final name of an operating system.
In a blog post, Nash, the general manager at Microsoft said
..since we began development of the next version of the Windows client operating system we have been referring to it by a codename, "Windows 7." But now is a good time to announce that we’ve decided to officially call the next version of Windows, "Windows 7."
In the past there were few cases when Microsoft used code name of a product for the final release, but this is the first time for Windows. Nash also gave the explanation why Windows 7 makes sense
this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore "Windows 7" just makes sense
Copies of Windows 7 software will be distributed to developers and other Microsoft professionals attending the events Professional Developers Conference and DevConnections later this year.
