In order to facilitate token transfers, Hop allows users to transfer tokens quickly and easily between layer-2s, side chains, and layer-1 Ethereum. A two-pronged approach is used in Hop for the purpose of providing a scalable token bridge for Ethereum’s layer-2 ecosystem:
- hTokens are a special intermediary asset that can be moved quickly and economically between networks.
- hTokens and layer-2 assets can be traded using automated market makers (AMMs).
