Download Offline Installers Of .NET Framework 4.5, 4.0, 3.5, 3.0 & 2.0 From Microsoft Servers

download the offline installers of .NET Framework 4.0, 3.5, .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1, .NET Framework 3.0 and .NET Framework 2.0.As many of the new Microsoft Windows applications are developed using .NET Framework, it is becoming mandatory to install .NET Framework on our personal computers. Microsoft provides .NET Framework installer as a free download available to everyone. But it is an online installer. That means, initially we have to download a small piece of installer and upon starting the installation process the installer automatically connects to Microsoft servers and downloads the required components and completes the installation.

The online installers works great as long as we have internet connectivity always. But many of us required offline installer to install the software on computers not connected to internet, to save the bandwidth while installing on many computers, etc.

I gathered a set of links on Microsoft servers from where we can download the offline installers of .NET Framework 4.0, 3.5, .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1, .NET Framework 3.0 and .NET Framework 2.0.

  2. I have a strange issue.. I recently did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro SP3 Corporate on a laptop and then installed dot net 4.0 as a program “FreeStudio” says that dot net is required. However dot net 4.0 is now installed every time I try to install the program it STILL says dot net needs to be installed.. do I need to install dot net 2.0 as well? or would dot net 3.5 service pack 1 do the trick?

  12. when i start downloading dot net 3.5, it opens new window with blank page. Kindly suggest me what should i do in order to install the dot net 3.5

  13. A few other notes about installing dotNET…….

First, I want to mention that Windows Installer ver 3.1 or better is required for the installation of 3.5 (this may also be part of the unknown download). Windows Installer ver 3.1 is a pain in the backside. It can cause problems when attempting to uninstall other programs in the future that were installed prior to WI3.1 installation. Sun Java is one that comes to mind. To avoid this problem, I strongly recommend installing Windows Installer ver 4.5 beforehand. In fact, if you are doing a fresh rebuild, I suggest you remove any programs you may not want, then install WI4.5 before continuing with the the rest of the build. This will save you a lot of headaches.

Second, getting dotNET1.1sp1 set up, with it’s updates is a good idea before continuing. This is also true of dotNET1.0, however very few programs use 1.0 and I have opted not to install it.

Third, if you install dotNET3.5sp1, it installs dotNET2.0sp2 and dotNET3.0sp2. No need to install those first.

Forth, these dotNET installers work very differently from how most MS installation packages work. For most KB’s and other MS installer packages, you install, then re-boot to complete installation. The dotNET installation puts the files in place and continues building (or “pre-compiling”) the libraries. This may be observed by opening the Task Manager and noticing a program called “mscoresvw.exe” running. The installation of a specific package is not complete until this program no longer runs after boot. On the plus side, it seems that MS has done a good job creating this installation technique, as you may continue to install updates etc. on top of the core builder and it will complete those tasks in order. It seems to be very well behaved.

Fifth, after installing dotNET3.5sp1, you will want to install KB958481, KB958483, and KB958484, in that order.

Finally, I want to give two scenarios that I have been playing with for those who are creating fresh builds. The first scenario is my XP MCE 2005, and the second is XP Pro SP2. They differ only with respect to dotNET1.1sp1. With my XP MCE CD, several other programs are installed
fter the build. This is a Sony OEM build that includes preinstalled software like adobe reader 7, Sun Java 5 update 0, dotNET1.1sp0, and KB886904 dotNET1.1sp0 hotfix. The OEM build also included many “bloatware” programs that I have removed (goodbye norton).

Note – I prefer to reboot after installing or uninstalling any program – that’s right reboot after each one – this does not apply to dotNET3.5sp1 and it’s updates

XP MCE2005 OEM – After initial installation:
    1) remove Sun Java 5 update 0
    2) use KB938244 cleanup tool to remove KB886904
(if you have KB928366, KB929729, or KB928367 installed, use
the KB939160 cleanup tool to remove those)
    3) remove Adobe Reader 7
    4) remove any other software that is not desired
    5) install Windows Installer ver 4.5
    6) if you have a SATA drive, install KB941715
    7) install dotNET 1.1 sp1 (KB867460)
    8) install KB886903
    9) install KB928366

XP PRO SP2 – After initial installation:
    1) install Windows Installer ver 4.5
    2) if you have a SATA drive, install KB941715
    3) install dotNET 1.1 sp1 (KB867460)
    4) install KB886903
    5) install KB928366

Once you have dotNET 1.1 sp1 set up……
    1) install MSXML 6.0
    2) install XML Paper Specification Essentials Pack
    3) install dotNET 3.5 sp1
    4) install KB958481 \
    5) install KB958483 > aka KB959209
    6) install KB958484 /

  14. Hi Jeffrey,
I am noticing the same thing. At the very beginning of the installation, it downloads another package (about 22mb, if I remember correctly). I think it displays a string describing it.
It may be more than one item.
On a related note, I found a temporary folder created by the installer on a drive other than C. This seems odd, as my C drive had plenty of space. I found a blog post that said installing
“Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0” and “Microsoft XML Paper Specification Essentials Pack” prior to installing dotNET3.5sp1 would alleviate this flaw. I am wondering if these
are part of the 22mb download.
I would like to know, so that I can have the files onhand for
download installation. I hope to one day slipstream all this into
    my xp mce.
